DRIFTWOOD SCRIPT

My final piece: DRIFTWOOD, is the beginning of a short story about the relationship between an old man and a nameless young boy with a lost identity. My sequence chronicles the meeting of the fisherman and the boy, who is found washed up in the shallows of the bay.

My sequence is without dialogue. To view the finalized script in script format, as provided to the actors, click the link here.

Continuity and Editing Practice

I wanted to try another video test to practice key editing methods in preparation for my final piece. I had a bit of time in the lesson so threw this short sequence together.

Final Piece Early Ideas

I had an idea to leave London to shoot my opening sequence, so as to find a more interesting and unique location for my final piece. The small coastal town of Swanage will act as the location and inspiration behind my piece. My grandparents own a small cottage on the 'point' of the quiet Southern bay. Swanage bay is entrenched in interesting historical tales and quirks and I think it would make a fantastic location for filming.

Furthermore, I discussed the soundtrack with my friend Louis, a music student and the composer of the theme to my preliminary. We decided an interesting direction to go down would be to mix an old, English fishing melody to the piece. We've considered mixing a version of the English folk tune 'When the Boat Comes in'. I feel the song fits with the feel and mood of the bay.
